The Full Story
Founder and Managing Director, Dave Miller, grew up in the beautiful Nelson region of New Zealand exploring and playing in the great outdoors that this region offers. On his 6th birthday he completed his first day hike in the Abel Tasman (14kms) and hasn't stopped since! After travelling and living extensively overseas Dave has always enjoyed coming back to Nelson--a place he describes as the ultimate outdoor playground. He hasn't found anywhere in the world with such natural diversity in one region. A dual Citizen (U.K. and New Zealand), Dave has now lived and worked in over 10 countries across 4 continents giving him a wide range of experiences, ideas and cultures as well as the challenges of working with other language speakers.
Dave is passionate about living an active healthy lifestyle and encouraging others to do so. This has led Dave to choose the core values for BeachedAz of care for self, care for others, and care for the environment. We seek to partner with like minded organisations to inspire people to make positive contributions to society, whilst also seeing the benefits of community, generosity and health in their own lives.
Dave has predominantly worked in the not-for-profit sector because, for him, “my job should be an extension of who I am and what I believe in”. Dave has high levels of drive, initiative, enthusiasm and confidence, ensuring speedy decision-making and the resolution of issues. Dave is also highly effective at networking and building positive internal and external relationships and has an excellent understanding of marketing, PR and sponsorship.
Dave has worked across a number of occupations and held a vast number of roles. Customer Service, farming, building, horticulture, outdoor adventure, summer camps, youth work, hospitality, operations, events, coaching, athlete management, tour guiding and managing holiday/ski resorts. Dave also has much experience in hiring, training and managing staff and volunteers with a particular strength in creating a great team atmosphere and getting the best out of people. In addition Dave has taken on consultation roles in particular to advise, plan and implement change in areas such as new technologies, systems, policies and procedures, health and safety and risks.
